Abstract:Serum inflammation indexes are novel biomarkers derived from the counting of inflammation-related cells in peripheral blood, which reflects the systemic inflammatory status of the body. Inflammation plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of most malignant tumors. Chronic persistent inflammation ultimately induces tumorigenesis and promotes its progression. Numerous studies have demonstrated that inflammation indexes are associated with the prognosis and clinical outcomes of various malignant tumors. The inflammation indexes can serve as potential serum biomarkers for prognostic assessment. In recent years, the global incidence of thyroid cancer has shown a significant increasing. There are significant differences in prognosis among different pathological subtypes. Consequently, it has become a hotspot of investigation on the relationship between serum inflammation indexes and thyroid cancer prognosis. This review summarizes the predictive value of serum inflammation indexes for survival outcomes, recurrence/metastasis, and treatment efficacy in different types of thyroid cancer. It will provide evidence for clinical treatment.
