Abstract:Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), commonly known as sudden deafness, is an acute hearing loss disease in otology with an unclear etiology. Its incidence rate is increasing year by year. Current research utilizes various indicators to assess the efficacy of treatment for SSNHL, including pure tone audiometry (PTA),vertigo or dizziness, tinnitus, aural fullness, and improvement in quality of life. And there are also differences in standards for the same indicator among different guidelines. However, the absence of unified efficacy evaluation indicators and standards poses challenges to the homogeneous progression of research related to SSNHL. The speech recognition score (SRS), stands out due to its unique sensitivity and practicality, highlighting the necessity of its inclusion as a indicator for assessing hearing efficacy in patients with SSNHL in America. But SRS has not yet been adopted as a specific criterion for evaluating the therapeutic effect of SSNHL in China. This paper aims to explore the significance of SRS in evaluating the efficacy of SSNHL treatment.
