Abstract:Objective To explore the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (eCRS) and non-eCRS and the correlation between its expression and the classification of chronic rhinosinusitis. Methods Clinical data of 286 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) admitted to the second affiliated hospital of Nanchang university from June 2022 to December 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the pathological types of chronic rhinosinusitis based on the number of eosinophils in postoperative pathological sections, the patients were divided into eCRS group (112 cases) and non-eCRS group (174 cases). Their test Results of SOD were collected through the hospital’s medical record system or laboratory system. Results The activity level of SOD in the eCRS group was (190.048±19.098) U/mL, and that in the non-eCRS group was (206.117±27.215) U/mL. The comparison between the two groups showed a statistically significant difference (P<0.05), and it was negatively correlated with the classification of chronic rhinosinusitis as eCRS (P<0.05). Conclusion The activity of SOD is lower in eCRS patients, and the activity of SOD is correlated with the intrinsic classification of chronic rhinosinusitis as eCRS.
