Abstract:Objective To summarize the clinical diagnosis and treatment of 15 cases of parapharyngeal space tumors, and provide reference for further selection of surgical indications and reduction of surgical complications. Methods The fifteen cases of parapharyngeal space tumors were fully evaluated by enhanced CT and MRI, and other preoperative examinations. Who were performed a resection by oral approach in 5 cases, by cervical lateral approach in 6 cases, and by cervical parotid gland approach in 4 cases. Results The tumors were successfully removed in all patients. One case of them had massive hemorrhage in the skull base immediately after tumor resection, and hemostasis was successfully stopped by packing with gelatin sponge. Two cases of 3 patients with malignant tumors received radiotherapy after surgery, but one patient of them was lost to follow-up. The other patients without recurrence were followed up for 1.5 to 5 years. Conclusions According to the location of the tumors and the patient's needs, the appropriate surgical method can be selected to completely remove the tumors. Preoperative adequate imaging evaluation is essential for formulating surgical plans and preventing surgical complications.
