Abstract:Nasal inverted papilloma (NIP) is a rare benign neoplasm of nasal cavity and sinus. However, its incidence has been on the rise in recent years with people's understanding of this disease and the development of detective technology. This disease gets a lot of attention for local recurrence, malignant transformation and local invasion. It is believed that the occurrence and malignant transformation of NIP are closely related to human papillomavirus (HPV). Currently, the main type of malignant transformation NIP is considered to be squamous cell carcinoma. In addition, the choices of surgical approach and residual tumor may also play the key role in the cause of NIP recurrence. What's more, because the operator can't totally removed the invasive bones also is the possible reason for recurrence. Other factors, such as the alteration of genic expression, inflammatory microenvironment and pollutants in the surroundings, also have the relationship with the progression of NIP. Although there are many papers to study the mechanism of NIP, but still lack of the systematic and comprehensive reporting. In this paper, a systematic review of the literature will be conducted to summarize and introduce the relevant factors of mechanism of NIP.
