Abstract:ObjectiveTo summarize and analyze the complications of cochlear implantation (CI) and explore their causes, clinical treatment and prognosis so as to provide clinical reference for avoiding the occurrence of such complications.MethodsA retrospective analysis was made on the causes of complications in 497 cases (498 ears) of CI performed by the same surgeon in our department from May 2010 to April 2019.Results24 cases had complications, accounting for 4.8% (24/497) of all the cases. The complications included vertigo (n=9), subperiosteal hematoma (n=2), infection or allergy (n=1), external auditory canal skin rupture (n=1), facial nerve (n=1) and tympanic nerve (n=1) injury, death (n=1), otorhinorrhea complicated with intracranial infection (n=1), rupture of electric drill bit to tympanic scale (n=1), local alopecia areata of implant (n=2), unimplanted electrode into cochlea (n=1), magnet displacement(n=2) and device failure(n=1).ConclusionHow to reduce the occurrence of serious complications is still an urgent problem in CI.
