Abstract:Hypopharyngeal carcinoma is a kind of malignant tumor with strong invasiveness. Due to atypical early symptoms of hypopharyngeal cancer, the most of the clients are in the advanced of treatment, which show poor prognosis. Surgical techniques of hypopharyngeal cancer have the treatment open surgery and minimally invasive surgery. The minimally invasive laser surgery includes transoral CO2 laser microsurgery (TLM) and transoral robotic surgery assisted by CO2 laser (TORS). As the traditional open surgery seriously affects the patients’ quality of life, how to achieve resection of the whole cancer,reduce recurrence,and improve the quality of life has always been the clinician’s exploration in recent years. The superiority of transoral CO2 laser minimally invasive surgery stands out increasingly. This paper combined with literature review will mainly introduce the research progress of CO2 laser in minimally invasive surgery for hypopharyngeal cancer.
