Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the curative efficacy of Biyuan Tongqiao particles in combination with montelukast sodium for treatment of allergic rhinitis in children.MethodsA total of 150 children(aged 4-12 years) with allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into two groups（a treatment group and a control group). The control group received montelukast orally for 2 weeks. The observation group took oral administration of biyuantongqiao granules for 2 weeks on the basis of the control group. The clinical symptom Visual analogue scale (VAS) scores,curative effect and recurrence rate were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.ResultsThe VAS scores of clinical symptoms after treatment in the control group, respectively: nasal obstruction (2.99±1.493), rhinorrhea(1.40±0.973), sneezing (1.37±1.583), total score (5.76±3.533); the VAS scores of clinical symptoms after treatment in the treatment group, respectively: nasal obstruction (1.81±1.036), rhinorrhea(0.64±0.880), sneezing (0.71±0.969), total score (3.16±2.331). The all scores after treatment were lower than that before treatment(all P＜0.05) in the two groups. There was no significant difference between the treatment group and the control group before treatment(all P＞0.05). There was significant difference between the treatment group and the control group after treatment(all P＜0.05). The effective rate of the treatment group(97.3%) was significantly higher than that of the control group(89.3%)(P＜0.05),and the recurrence rate of the treatment group(4.0%) was significantly lower than that of the control group(16.0%)(P＜0.05).ConclusionMontelukast sodium combined with biyuan tongqiao granule can improve the therapeutic effect of allergic rhinitis in children.
