Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore the etiology, clinical characteristics, surgical treatment and effect of fungus ball sinusitis.MethodsClinical data of 43 patients suffering from fungus ball sinusitis admitted in our department between Nov. 2013 and April 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. All the patients were treated with endoscopic sinus surgery.ResultsAll the patients had been followed up for 6 to 12 months postoperatively. Of them, one patient with fungus ball sphenoiditis recurred 6 months after surgery. A revisional surgery was performed and no recurrence occurred during the followup of 6 months.ConclusionThe fungus ball sinusitis can be primary diagnosed by clinical manifestation combined with computerized tomography (CT) of sinus. Endoscopic sinus surgery is the main surgical method with good prognosis.
