AbstractOn the basis of multidisciplinary treatment (MDT) in oncology, oncoplastic surgery, as an interdisciplinary branch, integrates theories and technologies from surgical oncology, plastic surgery and microsurgery for planned radical resection, primary repair and reconstruction. In addition to a review of the historical background for its emergence, this paper describes the process how oncoplastic surgery has developed from its initial conception to the present state with a discussion of its prospective trend for further growth.
