Abstract:Abstract: Objective To study the changes of subjective and objective ventilatory functions after operation in patients with nasal septal perforation. Methods 18 patients with nasal septal perforation were treated surgically. They were given rhinomanometry (RM),nasal spirometry (NS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) of nasal symptoms score before operation and after complete healing of perforation respectively. Paired ttest was applied to analyzing the pre andpostoperative data and the correlation of the VAS score, RM and nasal partitioning of airflow ratio (NPR) were analyzed by SPSS16.0 statistical software. Results The preoperative RM, NPR and VAS scores were (0.365±0.124)kPa·s·L-1, 0.28±0.14, and 3.46±1.02 respectively, while the postoperativ data were (0.32±0.112) kPa·s·L-1, 0.18±0.12 and 1.74±0.64. The difference between preoperative and postoperative VAS scores was statistically significant (P<0.01), while those of RM, NPR were insignificant (P>0.05). The correlation coefficients between VAS scores and RM, NPR were 0.638 and 0.687, their correlations were statistically insignificant. The coefficient between RM and NPR was 0.864 with statistically significant correlation (P<0.01). Conclusion The objective ventilatory function (RM, NP) may be relevant to subjective ventilatory function (VAS) in patients with nasal septal perforation, which might be beneficial for the selection of surgery program and surgical side.
