Abstract:Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of SHIP2 protein in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) and its clinical significance. Methods Immunohistochemistry was performed on paraffinembedded tissue specimens to investigate SHIP2 protein expression, which included 54 specimens of LSCC and 16 adjcent tissue samples. Results The significantly increased SHIP2 protein expression was identified in both LSCC tissue and cell lines and the overexpresion was tightly associated with LSCC T classification, clinical stage, metastasis and recurrence (P<0.05). The diseasefree survival and overall survival rates of patients with SHIP2 overexpression were lower than those with low SHIP2 expression (19.2% vs 64.3%, P<0.05; 26.9% vs 85.7%, P<0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that the expression of SHIP2 was an independent prognostic factor for patients with LSCC. Conclusion SHIP2 might play a critical role in the initiation and progression of LSCC, and might be a valuable prognostic marker of the tumor.
