Abstract:ABSTRACT:OBJECTIVE:To study Survivin expression and eosinophil infiltration in nasal polyp and their correlation, and to explore the role of Survivin in the pathogenesis of nasal polyp. METHODS:28 cases of nasal polyp and 12 cases of normal inferior turbinate mucosa were enrolled in this study. Immunohistochemistry method for Survivin and HE staining for eosinophils were performed in these two groups. RESULTS:① The number of eosinophil in the nasal polyp was higher than that in the control group by HE staining. ② The number and intensity of positive stained cells of Survivin in nasal polyp were higher than those in the control group. Image analysis showed that IOD of Survivin(103/HP)in the nasal polyp was 50.21±6.32 while that of the control group was 5.67±0.58. The differences between the two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). ③ Spearman correlation test showed that there was a close correlation between Survivin expression and eosinophil infiltration in nasal polyp (r=0.673, P<0.01). CONCLUSION:Both Survivin and eosinophil are over expressed in nasal polyp with close correlation.Survivin can inhibit apoptosis of inflammatory cells including eosinophil to promote infiltration and growth of inflammatory cells, therefore lead to the chronic inflammatory reaction in nasal polyp.
